Slackers live longer

Psychology has good news for slackers: perfectionism is bad for you. Being tense is bad for you.

OK, if you know me well, would you say I'm a perfectionist? Do you think I'm often tense?

I was going to reply to this post, but I think I need a nap.

How do you figure this when my mother, who was a fanatic at perfectionism lived to be 91, and my father who was much more relaxed, fun-loving, and tolerant of other people's mistakes and his own, died before age 75? And, since I've been called a perfectionist, I'm going on 80. But, my perfectionism is just an illusion. I hide all the clutter in closets. But I do make lists and am organized on paper. This is because - well, it's just because. I do need more naps, though.

George Burns smoked heavily and lived to be 100, but I don't think anyone would cite him as an example of smoking's health benefits. We need to be careful with anecdotal evidence, since there will always be someone who can cite the story of a person who survived a jump from an airplane with no parachute.

How about these examples to prove statistics don't prove much.

For those of you who watch what you eat, here's the final word on nutrition and health. It's a relief to know the truth after all those conflicting medical studies.

1. Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
2. Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
3. Africans drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
4. Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than Americans.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you
