Carolina Theatre in Greensboro: Movies

The Carolina Theatre in Greensboro, NC has two film series that I enjoy:

The Carolina Classics series presents
The Grapes of Wrath (1940)
Tuesday, April 12 at 7:30 p.m.
Grapes of Wrath follows the Joad family's cross-country exodus from the Oklahoma Dustbowl to the promised land of California. Ranking No. 21 on the American Film Institute's list of the 100 greatest American films, it's also the story of emotional resonance and human perseverance as Henry Fonda and Oscar-winner Jane Darwell turn in amazing performances. Tickets are $5.

The Cinematique Carolina series presents
The Sea Inside
Monday, April 18 at 5:30 p.m. and 8:00 p.m.
Winner of 2005's Academy Award for Best Foreign Film, The Sea Inside is based on the profoundly moving real life story of Spaniard Ramon Sampedro and stars Javier Bardem. Sampedro captured the world's attention and fought a 30-year campaign in favor of his right to die with dignity. His encounters with two women, Julia (Belen Rueda), a lawyer who supports his cause, and Rosa (Lola Dueqas), a neighbor who wants to convince him that life is worth living, leads to change in their own lives. Though he could not move himself Ramon Sampedro had the ability to move others and teach everyone the meaning, value and preciousness of living. The film is in Spanish with English subtitles and is rated PG-13 for intense depiction of mature thematic material. Tickets are $7 for adults and $5 for students and seniors.

All tickets can be purchased by calling the Carolina Theatre Box Office at (336) 333-2605, visiting http://www.carolinatheatre.com or in person at 310 S. Greene Street in downtown Greensboro.
