Radiolab did a program on liars and lie detection. In it they mentioned that people who were good at self-deception were happier.

Certainly you can be happy without deceiving yourself, right? And you can deceive yourself and still be unhappy.
I have a strong suspicion that the most unhappy people in the world are also the most self-deceived.
